Final Project: Visual Analysis and Final Blog
LECTURE
- Visual analysis is a method of understanding design that focuses on the visual elements and principles; a description and explanation of visual structure for its own sake
- Simultaneously, it can also recognise the design choices made and understand how the formal properties of a design communicates ideas, content or meaning
- It is a critical part of visual literacy, a skill that helps people read and critically interpret images - in a museum, social media, entertainment or others
- Practicing visual analysis sharpens critical judgment skills and help people seek out answers instead of passively receiving information
- There are three phases of visual analysis: observation, analysis and interpretation
- Observation refers to closely looking at and identifying the visual elements of a design, trying to describe them carefully and accurately in your own words - avoid reading about the design beforehand
- Analysis requires you to think about your observations and try to make the statements about the work based on the evidence of your observations - consider the specific visual elements identified and combine them to create a whole, and what effect that whole has on a viewer
- Interpretation is when your observations, description and analysis of the work are fused with facts about the design work (and in some cases the designer) and historical context that you find in trustworthy published sources
Instruction
Task :
We are tasked to assess, investigate, document & analysis a design material of our choice (billboards/television, commercial/movie, etc). After doing so, we are to produce a work of design, inspired/influenced by the chosen design material we studied on. The theme we are given is "Reduced Inequalities".

In this illustration, the rainbow spits out of the girl's mouth as a visual guide line, the role is very important. When we see this illustration, the first thing we notice must be the "starting point" of the guide line, that is, the girl in the upper right corner. With the guidance of the guide line, our eyes will see the scenery along the way just like taking a train sightseeing, and one magical element after another will come into view.

In this artwork, there is a feeling of framework, it comes from the guide line together various elements, as shown in figure I marked red frame on, form a rectangular frame, and dark green behind the dark background is in stark contrast, seemed to be all happy in the rainbow bridge is temporary, if one false move, will step into the back of the abyss.

There are abundant individual elements in this illustration, among which my favorite is the baby-faced sunflower element, which is the product of friendship and unity between man and nature. The baby face in the center of the flower gives this individual element a childlike, lovely touch. And the combination of people and sunflower gives people the feeling of fantasy, this combination of childlike fun and fantasy let me very lost.

With the development of The Times, the new illustration style with jumping colors and fantastic elements is becoming more and more popular. They are characterized by the interlacing of reality and fantasy, giving people a sense of authenticity and falseness. In my opinion, this kind of painting is like a dream, which can only be seen in a dream. One can escape from the chaotic society and seek a quiet place in the dream. Like this combination of a fairy with an Avatar body and a sculpted face in a pool.

DESIGN
I will also adopt a wonderful combination of several elements with jumping and retro colors to complete my design. At the same time, Dr. Jinchi asked us to eliminate inequality, and my theme is to eliminate gender inequality. I have to explain that I have been working hard for a long time but I have no inspiration for the choice of theme.
My inspiration came from a vicious beating incident in Tangshan city, Hebei Province, China. Please allow me to briefly after the incident, a barbecue shop, in the morning a man intent obscene woman in public, after being refused with associates to the woman and companion brutal beatings, especially the woman, the whole face was disfigured ribs broken a few root, then the grill has a lot of guests at dinner, Their behavior of beating people in public and ignoring the law has caused a great sensation in China, which makes all Chinese women feel deeply helpless. If it is wrong to even dine with friends, I can't imagine how much pressure women have on personal safety now.

After the occurrence of this event, also triggered many girls said that they had been molested by tracking or molested events, simple text is indeed the blood and tears of millions of women. Lu Xun has a saying: if I look on coldly to what happens to others today, if I meet this experience tomorrow, no one will ask for help for me. Girls help girls, as a woman, I have the obligation and responsibility to do my best to appeal for gender equality and protect women. So I chose this theme.

In my sketch, a naked girl with heart injury ran into a sunflower dream by accident. When she sat helplessly among the sunflower flowers holding her body and crying, all the sunflowers showed her beautiful doll-like face, smiled at her, comforted her and protected her.

I chose the combination element of baby-face and sunflower that I like very much as the element in my illustration works. I tried to find inspiration on Pinterest to determine my painting method.

I like this babyface painting very much, and I use it in my illustration design.At the beginning, I tried to completely use that painting method, but the tedious drawing method of eyelashes and lips was not suitable for my overall illustration. I tried to cut the redundant lines and got the final doll face.

This is the first edition of my work. I showed my homework on the shared screen in class. Dr. Jinchi suggested to me that the colors of the rainbow should be actual, real colors.

Final Outcome
This is my final version after revision, and the colors of the rainbow look more brilliant than before.

Analysis of symbolic meaning of works
The little girl in my painting represents thousands of women around the world who have been injured by violence, rape, abuse, and notice that the little girl in my painting is naked. The scene of this painting is actually a paradise that I want to create to house all injured women. The sunflowers actually serve as an umbrella to protect these women from being hurt again. The main meaning of the rainbow is to show the beautiful and peaceful environment. And we all know that it takes a storm to see a rainbow, and this paradise is the rainbow these women have been waiting for.
