Project 1:  Audio Editing Exercises

INSTRUCTION

Project 1 : Audio Editing Exercise

In this assignment, we were instructed to voice this short film from the movie Souls. In addition to dubbing the dialogue, we also had to add proper sound effects.

I recorded the sound with my phone and downloaded the appropriate sound effects from Jian Ying app. All of this has been imported into premier pro.

Exercise 1: Sound Shaping

In Week 9, we were required to watch a recording and use Adobe Audition to edit the audio clip given. We were required to use the parametric equalizer and also reverb to make the audio sound different such as on a phone call, in a closet, in a big stadium, in an underground cave and also in the bathroom.

Continued after the tutorial, we was instructed to shape the sounds below as our final outcome for this "Sound Shaping Exercise Submission". As there are differ requirements on the slides and recorded lecture, I picked the max option and we are required to shape the audio track to :
1. voice of phone call
2. voice coming from inside of closet
3. voice of big stadium
4. voice of toilet/ bathroom
5. voice of underground cave

the development and final outcome are showed below.

Exercise 2: Sound Design

For this week, we were required to watch the recording of the exercise and try it out ourselves on Adobe Audition. It was my first time using Adobe Audition, so I was afraid that it would be really complicated and new to me and it would take me a lot of time to learn. But thanks to the recording, it was quite easy to follow step-by-step.

Continued after the tutorial, we was instructed to design the sounds below as our final outcome for this "Sound Design Exercise Submission". The required version :
1. Magnification Explosion sound
2. Variation of Punch Sounds (Triple Punches)
3. Monster of Alien voice (one part of the sample voice) *for this version was required to explore the feature "modulation".

REFLECTION

Dubbing has always been a very distant thing in my impression. I once watched a variety show about dubbing called "Voice in its Environment", which left a deep impression on me. I always thought dubbing was interesting. After dubbing myself, I found that dubbing is not as interesting as it seems. It also requires a deep familiarity and understanding of the clips to be dubbing. And the voice of the voice actors is very demanding. I also learned how to make sounds and effects in different scenes, which made me very happy.

I started this project by binge-watching multiple videos from the pasta Granny and decided to make this video on how to make flake bread. Flatbread is found all over Italy, and Enrica shares her recipe for "crostoli" (it's plural and singular is crostolo) here. Lard is a key ingredient, and the way it's made makes delicious pancakes.
