REFLECTION

Experience

Throughout the Brand Corporate Identity course, I engaged in four major projects: Breaking Brand, Logo Design, Brand & Positioning, and Brand Guidelines. Each task built upon the previous, providing a comprehensive understanding of the branding process. Starting with Breaking Brand, I analyzed existing brands to understand their core components and strategies. This was followed by the Logo Design task, where I applied my learnings to create a unique and representative logo for Soul Art Studio. The Brand & Positioning task allowed me to develop a clear brand strategy, which was then encapsulated in the final Brand Guidelines project. This cumulative approach was both challenging and rewarding, as it required me to synthesize various elements into a cohesive brand identity. The process was iterative, with each task refining my understanding and skills, ultimately leading to a well-rounded brand guide for Soul Art Studio.

Observations

During the course, I observed several key insights. Consistency emerged as a critical factor in successful branding. Whether it was the color palette, typography, or tone of voice, maintaining uniformity across all brand elements was essential for creating a strong and recognizable identity. I also noticed the importance of understanding the target audience and tailoring the brand message to meet their needs and expectations. The Logo Design task highlighted the power of simplicity and symbolism in creating memorable logos. Additionally, the Brand & Positioning task underscored the need for a clear and compelling brand story that resonates with the audience. Finally, in the Brand Guidelines project, I realized the value of a comprehensive and user-friendly guide that ensures everyone involved with the brand adheres to the established standards.

Findings

The course provided several important findings that will inform my future branding endeavors. Firstly, a thorough analysis of existing brands (as done in Breaking Brand) is invaluable for understanding the market and identifying opportunities for differentiation. Secondly, effective logo design is a balance between creativity and clarity; it should be distinctive yet simple enough to be easily recognized. Thirdly, a strong brand positioning statement is essential for guiding all branding efforts and ensuring consistency in messaging. This task highlighted the importance of defining the brand’s unique selling proposition and aligning it with the target audience’s needs. Lastly, creating detailed brand guidelines is crucial for maintaining brand integrity. These guidelines serve as a reference for all stakeholders, ensuring that the brand's visual and verbal elements are consistently applied across all platforms and materials.

I started this project by binge-watching multiple videos from the pasta Granny and decided to make this video on how to make flake bread. Flatbread is found all over Italy, and Enrica shares her recipe for "crostoli" (it's plural and singular is crostolo) here. Lard is a key ingredient, and the way it's made makes delicious pancakes.
